Saravanan "Surya" Sivakumar (Tamil: சரவணன் "சூர்யா" சிவகுமார்) (born July 23, 1975) is a Tamil film actor.
Early life:
Surya Sivakumar was born to actor Sivakumar and his wife Lakshmi. He is the eldest of three children, his younger brother is actor Karthik Sivakumar and a younger sister named Brindha Sivakumar.
He went to St. Bede's School in Chennai and psbb schoolchennai and graduated from Loyola College with a Bachelor of Commerce degree. He worked for a few years in the garment industry before entering into the film industry.
Career:
Sivakumar debut in Nerrukku Ner (1997). Later he starred in Friends and Nandha, for which he received a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actor.
Sivakumar's next venture was with Vikraman in the movie Unnai Ninaithu which was followed by Mounam Pesiyadhe. Kaaka Kaaka, a movie about the life of a police officer, grossed almost 100 million at the box office. Pithamagan, in which Sivakumar was played a happy-go-lucky village crook in a comedic role for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor. In the movie Perazhagan, Sivakumar acted in two roles, one as a boxer and the other as a handicapped but a confident phone booth keeper for which he received a Filmfare Award for Best Actor. His role in Aayitha Ezhuthu was based on George Reddy, a student leader in Hyderabad during the 80's.
In 2005, Sivakumar appeared in Aaru and Ghajini and set up a production company called Studio Green which distributed the movie in the Chennai district. Sivakumar played a short term memory loss patient in Ghajini. It was remade in hindi in 2008.
Sivakumar's 2006 release was N. Krishna's Sillunu Oru Kaadhal. He acted opposite his real-life partner Jyothika Saravanan in the film. In 2007, Sivakumar's solitary release was Vel. He later appered in Vaaranam Aayiram, another venture with Gautham Menon, released on November 14, 2008.
Sivakumar's next film is Ayan directed by K. V. Anand, and released on April 3rd. Following Ayan, Sivakumar has been cast in Aadhavan directed by K. S. Ravikumar, followed by Singam directed by Hari. Sivakumar will also be acting in a film titled Mugamoodi, which is expected to be a superhero film. He is also acting in his debut Hindi movie Rakta Charitthra, which is directed by Ram Gopal Varma.
Personal life:
Surya married Jyothika Saravanan on September 11, 2006[2][3]. In 2008, the couple's daughter Diya was born.
Agaram Foundations:
In 2008, Sivakumar began the Agaram Foundations[4] working to help children who drop out of school early in Tamil Nadu. With the Ministry of Education in Tamil Nadu, he created a short commercial video outlining child poverty, labour and lack of education, titled Herova? Zerova?. The film was written and produced by Sivakumar and also starred Joseph Vijay, R. Madhavan and Jyothika Saravanan.
